Ładne to, nawet bardzo ładne. Pochodzący z Francji STURM uraczył nas krótko mówiąc bardzo ciekawym i udanym debiutem, co bardzo mile mnie zaskoczyło. Obawiałem się nieco tego albumu, gdyż w ostatnim czasie mamy coraz więcej pseudo-militarnych grajków, z czego spora część to żenująca kopia znanych i cenionych grup, ale w tym przypadku jest inaczej.
"Le Prix..." to bowiem bardzo interesująca i wciągająca muzyczna podróż przez opustoszałe pole walki. Mamy tu jednak bardziej do czynienia z obrazami po bitwie, gdy dym i kurz już opadły... Całość utrzymana w konwencji symfonicznego dark ambientu z wybijającymi rytm kotłami, stukającymi werblami, delikatną melodią sprawia, iż naprawdę bardzo miło się tego albumu słucha. Nie ma tu bombastycznych, potężnych uderzeń ani innych tym podobnych elementów, za to doskonale zaaranżowany i przemyślany materiał, który nastraja do zadumy, refleksji, melancholii...
Wszystkie dziewięć kompozycji jest utrzymanych na tym samym wysokim poziomie i sprawia, że każdy dźwięk płynący z głośników ma tu swoje miejsce. Czasem więcej klawiszowych, nastrojowych pejzaży ("Interlude II"), chwilami bardziej orkiestralnie ("L'exode"), symfonicznie ("Terrorisme" - mój faworyt) ale zawsze niezwykle spójnie i z pomysłem. Szczerze mówiąc p przesłuchaniu tego materiału parę razy trudno mi było uwierzyć, że jest to debiut STURM, gdyż dawno już nie słyszałem tak spójnego i mądrze stworzonego albumu. Ja osobiście chylę czoła przed twórcą i życzę aby następne krążki były tak samo dobre co "Le Prix...". Nie słyszałem ostatnich pozycji WOP, ale ten album jest z całą pewnością jednym z najmocniejszych i najjaśniejszych punktów w katalogu tej firmy. Jak lubicie LES JOYAUX DE LA PRINCESSE to założę się że polubicie też STURM. Ładne to, nawet bardzo ładne...

For a project to call themselves Sturm ("Storm" in English) is to encourage a litany of abuse for choosing such a cliché name, as it's literally the equivalent of a black metal band calling themselves Satan's Blood -- which sadly and predictably does exist. But poorly chosen names are usually forgiven if the band or project is any good (Rotting Christ readily spring to mind), and it appears that _Le Prix du Sang et des Larmes_ is his penance for opting for such a cheesy name.

Sturm delivers a tempestuous feast located at the nexus of martial industrial and neoclassical; a stirring journey not unlike The Protagonist, only with more bombast. Actually, even Wagner may be embarrassed by the degree and extent of bombast present here, and consequently even the most demanding industrial fan will not be disappointed.

No vocals are present, or even any spoken samples, as they would simply and unnecessarily intrude upon the flow of his neoclassical constructions. Although largely synth-driven, some percussion is present in one of two forms: either pounding drums resonating with the imminence of war, or militaristic drum rolls. Not all the effects are equally effective, however; the attempts at horn simulation on "La Volonté d'Unifierare" are barely recognisable as such, and serve merely to highlight the inherent limitations of using artificial sounds to recreate or even attempt to capture such a grandiose vision.

Thankfully, the synth work is much better than what is used on Von Thronstahls's excellent composition, which would be his opus were it not for the extremely dated and cheap sounding keyboards. His work would also be better served by increased use of piano tinkling -- this is at least one instrument that a keyboard can simulate comparatively effectively, and its appearance never fails to enhance the atmosphere. Still, these are minor points and are not serious quibbles.

Sturm est un projet français qui sort son premier album sur War Office Propaganda. Label qui signe décidément beaucoup de nouvelles formations, et semble toujours à la recherche d'artistes nouveaux pour son catalogue, pour le meilleur ou pour le pire surtout ces derniers temps.

Le Prix Du Sang Et Des Larmes est un album néo classique à tendance martiale, à tendance seulement. En effet Sturm évite les clichés du genre, comme le soldat allemand sur la pochette ou les samples de propagandes qui foisonnent souvent dans ce style. Les 9 titres proposés ici sont homogènes, instruments à vent et à cordes composent l'essentiel de l'instrumentation, piano, hautbois, violons, cuivres, cymbales et timbales créent une atmosphère noire, triste et énigmatique tout au long du cd. La musique est très orchestrale avec des passages plus "musique de chambre", grâce entre autres à l'utilisation de ritournelles au piano astucieuses. Le côté martial est apporté essentiellement par les rythmes militaires de certains morceaux ou leur thématique, comme sur "Le Prix Du Sang Et Des Larmes" ou "Sabotage". Pour un premier album Sturm a su trouver son univers et poser ses marques. "Souvenirs Du Passé" est un bon titre où un piano nostalgique entrecoupe l'ambiance martiale dominante pour l'adoucir, "Interlude II" uniquement au piano fait penser à la bande son d'une séquence d'un film noir et blanc muet des années 20. "Terrorisme ?" quant à lui est lyrique et religieux, envolées orchestrales de cuivres et de cordes, orgue cérémoniel, pour un résultat percutant. C'est aussi le seul titre où une voix qui semble être un journaliste passe en fond. "Garder Espoir" est un morceau très réussi où choeurs, piano et violons dans une ambiance douce et légere ferment le dernier chapitre de l'album. Le défaut de ce premier cd vient du côté mécanique de certaines rythmiques ou de certains passages, un apport de sonorités plus acoustiques donnerait une dimension et une profondeur plus importantes à chaque titre.

Le potentiel est là, l'idée et l'inspiration aussi, c'est avec intérêt que j'attend la suite de ce premier opus. Je rapprocherais Sturm de projet tel que Regard Extrême, Philipe Laurent ou même la vielle période des Nouvelles Lectures Cosmopolites dans une certaine mesure, tout en ayant sa personnalité et sa propre approche.

Ein überragendes Debüt!

Zu gewissen Publikationen müssen die äußeren Begebenheiten einfach stimmen, um sie vollends ins Herz zu schließen. Die empfohlenen Rahmenbedingen für das Hören des Debütalbums "Le prix du sang et des larmes" von Sturm sind regnerisches Wetter, keine Ablenkung durch Telefon oder Fernsehen und ein schönes Glas Rotwein. Lehnen Sie sich entspannt zurück und genießen Sie das Oeuvre.

Wie bei so viele anderen Projekten, macht der Hintermann von Sturm auch ein Geheimnis um seine Person. Was Induvidien dazu treibt, sich hinter einem Pseudonym zu verstecken, wird meiner Wenigkeit wohl dauerhaft ein Rätsel bleiben. Folgende Details gelten als gesichert, Einmannprojekt, Herkunftsland Frankreich und Künstlername "O".

Ein weiterer ungewöhnlicher Punkt stellt die Betitelung "Sturm" dar, eigentlich gelten die Franzosen als übermäßig Nationalstolz, somit hatte ich ehr auf einen französischsprachigen Schaffensnamen getippt. Dafür baut sich die Sprachbarriere bei den Titelbezeichnungen auf, die der Sounderschaffer in seiner Muttersprache konzipierte.

An dieser Stelle erfahren Sie sonst Einzelheiten zum Inhalt, aber aufgrund mangelnder französischer Sprachkenntnisse, muß dies entfallen.

Musikalisch hingegen erschließt sich der interessierten Hörerin bzw. dem geneigten Hörer eine martialisch anmutende Neoklassikarbeit, die in jeglicher Hinsicht das Prädikat wertvoll verdient. Wer bisher diesem Genre nichts abgewinnen konnte, braucht "Le prix du sang et des larmes" von Sturm nicht zu seiner Einkaufliste hinzufügen. In hohem Maße lehnt sich die Tonkunst des Franzosen an den deutschen Komponisten Richard Wagner (1813-1883) an, welcher die Welt mit seinen musikdramatischen Werken verzauberte. Die andere Komponente von Sturm bilden Größen wie The Protagonist, Arditi und Puissance. Für den Konsumentenkreis, der einfache Hörstrukturen sucht, dürfte Sturm zu abstrakt bzw. zu wahnsinnig des Weges kommen. Leichte Dark Ambient Untermalungen (zum Teil militärisch angehaucht), die mit Klavierpassagen, Hörnerklängen, Einlagen von Blasinstrumenten, Schlagwerkgetöse und Streicherpartituren überlagert wurden, beschreibt den musikalischen Gesamteindruck sehr passend. Zur weiteren Akzentuierung der Tondokumente tragen vereinzelte Sprachsamples bei, die eine mystische Stimmung erzeugen.

Der Anspieltipp 'Terrorisme' auf "Le prix du sang et des larmes" zeigt stellvertretend für die restlichen 8 Tracks, dass der Franzose großen Wert auf vielschichtige bzw. mehrschichtige Kompositionen legt, die in großem Masse den Faktor "Erhabenheit" transportieren. Das Zusammenspiel aus Fanfaren, martialischen Schlagwerken, dunklen Orgelklängen und einer düsteren Stimme ergeben ein majestätisches Gesamtkunstwerk, dass in seiner Gesamtheit überzeugen mag.

Die bei solchen Veröffentlichungen wichtige Produktion lässt keine Wünsche offen und fügt sich nahtlos ins Gesamtbild ein.

Fazit:
Ein sehr ausdrucksstarkes Debüt von knapp über 40 Minuten hat der französische Künstler mit "Le prix du sang et des larmes" geschaffen, welches in jeglicher Hinsicht voll überzeugen kann. Zum Start mit einem Kleinod aufzuwarten stellt nur eine Schwierigkeit dar, die Meßlatte für weitere Releases liegt sehr hoch und verhindert vielleicht ein freies Aufspielen des Protagonisten.

Wer hochwertige neoklassische Veröffentlichungen sammelt, muß hier unbedingt zugreifen. Absolute Kaufempfehlung, aber nur für Liebhaberinnen und Liebhaber von abstrakten Kreationen.

„Le Prix Du Sang Et Des Larmes“ ist das Erstlingswerk der Franzosen Sturm und bei weitem nicht so Military Pop lastig ausgefallen, wie die vorab auf Myspace veröffentlichten Stücke erwarten liessen. Die neun Tracks überraschen mit einer orchestralen und bombastischen Vielfalt, die vielmehr an klassische Soundtracks erinnert und so gar nicht an militärische Stechschrittkolonnen oder Military Drumming. Dabei überzeugen die Stücke durchweg mit einem gelungenen Spannungsaufbau und Dynamikwechseln, die man in dieser Form bislang am ehesten von Elend gewohnt war. „Le Prix Du Sang Et Des Larmes“ beinhaltet zudem einer sehr düsteren und bedrohlichen musikalischen Tenor, der sehr visualisierend wirkt und imaginäre Bilder zeichnet, wie man sie von Endzeit- und Weltuntergangsszenarien erwarten würde. Auch wenn meine (extrem) hohe Erwartungshaltung an „Le Prix Du Sang Et Des Larmes“ nicht ganz erfüllt werden konnte, unter dem Strich ist das Album schon extrem beeindruckend.

Jesli mam byc szczery tego typu twórczosc zawsze stanowila dla mnie pewien problem.Wiem, ze jest dosc spora rzesza fanów tzw. neoklasycznego symfonicznego industrialu.Ale przyznam szczerze, ze za nic nie pojmuje, czemu tak sie te muzyke okresla, bo ze neoklasyczna to jeszcze rozumiem, ale ze industrialna to juz nie.Odstawmy jednak te dywagacje na bok. Muzycznie Sturm prezentuje sie jednak bardzo przyzwoicie, swoja orkiestrowosc osiaga za pomoca syntezatora, budujac jak najbardziej pelne dramaturgii utwory, wsparte poteznym rytmem.Sluchajac tych dziewieciu kompozycji, mamy wrazenie jakbysmy uczestniczyli w opowiadaniu pewnej historii.Muzyka, jaka znajduje sie na tym CD jest wielowatkowa, dzieki czemu jestesmy nieustannie zainteresowani tym, co wydarzy sie dalej. Zapoznacie sie z pieknym, neoklasycznym materialem. W dziewieciu monumentalnych kompozycjach francuski Sturm stopniowo buduje atmosfere rozbudowanym brzmieniem syntezatorowym - syntezator to z reszta glówny, a pewnie jedyny instrument uzywany przez Sturm. Jednak projekt ukazuje ogromny kunszt w poslugiwaniu sie klawiszami - wielobarwnosc tych monumentalnych brzmien wzbudza respekt, momentami tez ciarki przechodzace sluchaczowi po skórze. Odpowiedzialne za funkcje "ciarkowzbudzacza" sa w duzym stopniu partie werbli, marszowym rytmem dosc regularnie uzupelniajace kompozycje z tej plyty.

Móglbym zarzucic "Le prix du sang et des larmes"- bo taki tytul nosi ten album - brak eksperymentalnosci,naginania konwencji...jednak czy jest to wada?

Zapoznacie sie z rozbudowana symfonia niespokojnych jak burza /sam projekt nazywa sie przeciez Sturm/ brzmien,stymulujaca wyobraznie jak soundtrack skrupulatnie dobrany do filmu. Potraktujcie wiec te plyte jako podklad muzyczny prowadzacy wasze mysli.

"Le prix du sang (...)" jest debiutem francuskiego Sturm, wydanym przez nasz rodzimy War Office Propaganda. Szukajac wiecej info o w.w. projekcie dotarlem do ich witryny internetowej - zespól dopiero przygotowuje swoja strone,zbyt wiele sie z niej nie dowiemy. To dobrze,ze wpierw postawili na nagranie znakomitego albumu; Mocny debiut jest o wiele lepsza rekomendacja niz tysiace slów zamieszczonych na stronach www.

Album ten goraco polecam,z niecierpliwoscia czekam na jego nastepce. Aha, i nie kryje sie z moja sympatia jaka darze francuskie projekty ;-)

This debut album from French act, Sturm, joins the illustrious ranks of War Office Propaganda’s retinue of burnished neoclassicism and military bombast with instrumental and minimalist orchestral scrollwork whose gamut encompasses both neoclassicism and romantic periods of music.

Clarinet initiates the initial panorama Sturm builds on ‘Le Prix du Sang et des Larmes’, anon inter-lapping pizzicato footsteps and lithe strings bend to the plaintive groaning of the woodwind, a subdued fanfare builds with drummed march on timpani and military snare, the rustling of reeds, lending an Oriental hue to the predominantly European styling. Sturm’s musical score is interlaid in orchestral clangour and regality, stooping at times to gentle introspective breaths where dulcet pianoforte luxuriantly unfurls elegiac phrasing, the album rarely recycling melody rather embracing exposition and experimentation from said kernel. ‘Le Prix du Sang et des Larmes’ folds continuously, like origami, promulgating momentum over memorability and while compositionally impressive one’s attention tends to drift from the nighted tracks that constantly evolve, where tracks venturing new inflections of symphonic storytelling blur converge into a murky undercurrent of classicism.

Certain instruments throughout this release despite their polish retain certain plasticity and while the hiring of a full orchestra including practicing the score is undoubtedly unreachable, the production side of the album brings out some flaws. Gems do scintillate, but they are rare to spot as Sturm has concentrated more on journey than of the sights that leave indelible and mnemonic mark, which given the level of compositional detail that girds this forty-minute opus might be surprising, yet it does leave the album’s intricacies for further listening.

Sturm...vaya proyecto. Pues este proyecto francés (del que se sabe poco, por cierto) ha lanzado para regocijo nuestro un disco espectacularmente denso y bello: Le prix du Sang et des Larmes, que traducido al castellano sería algo así como El precio de la Sangre y las Espadas. Cobijado en un sello dedicado normalmente al industrial marcial, War Office Propaganda ha dado un toque magistral a la producción de Le prix du Sang et des Larmes.

La caracterización de este disco es abundante como asombrosa, puesto que contiene elementos de piano a la usanza neoclásica, bases atmosféricas del ambient, percusiones cercanas al estilo marcial, y un marcado sentimiento romántico y drámatico en general. No sé en que consista el esplendor de este disco, la verdad me tiene alegremente confundido porque no es un disco fácilmente etiquetable.

Le prix du Sang et des Larmes es el primer trabajo de Sturm, aunque previamente hay un track contenido en un disco recopilatorio del sello WOF. Sturm is a young French neo-classical project, of whom furthermore little is know, which makes it’s debut with this album. Not very unexpected that this release appears via the Polish War Office Propaganda, specialised in martial industrial, neo-classical dark ambient and neofolk. The sound of Sturm is romantic, with frequent use of piano and also militant due to the heavy and forceful percussion. Often almost cinematographic in atmosphere, partly because the ambient influence is present quite dominantly. This album however is neo-classical in character. The further the tracklist evolves the more the music increases in intensity and beauty. The music of Sturm could be perfect to serve as soundtrack to a historical film or documentary about castles or even 18th or 19th century warfare. This is a very strong debut release packaged in a luxury digipak. Recommended to fans of Herr, Arditi or The Protagonist.

Вы любите дождь? Не теплый грибной, пронизанный солнцем, а тот, что смывает грязь с безжизненных мостовых обреченного града? Косые, холодящие ливни, бьющие в кирпичную кладку? Нет? Так ступайте дальше. Обойдите стороной этот диск (между прочим, дебютный) с его безотчетной тревогой, гнетущим настроением и отсутствием надежд, с заунывной атмосферой обители мертвых и подлинно французским драматизмом. Жанр? Бог ведает. Уж точно не рок с традиционной раскладкой в виде ударных—гитары—баса. Говоря начистоту, в отношении Sturm совершенно не тянет заниматься вопросами классификации. Достаточно самой музыки, решенной оркестровыми средствами, и, вероятнее всего, сэмплированного происхождения. Дробные маршевые ритмы проходят жестким строем сквозь наслоения духовых и струнных, огибают минорное звучание классического пиано, растворяются в серой дымке, заслоняющей горизонт. В новелле (здесь это определение к месту) “Terrorisme” мелодическую канву процеживают индустриально-искаженные речевые фрагменты, заимствованные то ли из радио-, то ли из телерепортажа. Финальная “Garder espoir” даже не намекает на happy end. У загробной мессы с давящими фортепианными пассажами довольно красноречивый итог: шансов спастись – ноль. Имеющим склонность к депрессии, а равно беременным женщинам и детям слушать “Le Prix Du Sang et Des Larmes” категорически запрещается. Зато любителей Devil Doll и лиц, обожающих саундтреки мистического толка, ждет немало приятных минут.

Le Prix Du Sang Et Des Larmes (translation: "The Price Of Blood And The Tears ") is forty minutes of thematic, neoclassical landscapes over a militaristic rhythm hailing from France. There are no voices reciting Voltaire in any sort of gothic whisper (aside from a sample on "Terrorisme" which sounds like French in a Morse code pattern) or Scandinavian hell screams to curdle your blood, so if soundtracks make you wrinkle your nose, steer clear. The movements are primarily driven by strings, piano and thunderous orchestral percussion, however, the focus is placed more on composition rather than any virtuosity or featured instruments. As one would expect from the French, there is certain amount of confidence and arrogant flair in the instrumentation and movements; it would be an insult deserving the duel-challenging slap of a glove to question what STURM is crafting.

Le Prix Du Sang Et Des Larmes has difficulty standing on its own. If it were associated with a film or perhaps had a story of some sort attached, it could merit more applause, but as it is, there's particularly interesting going on. Great for background music when you want to feel a little cultured, maybe inspiration for a painting or just doing the dishes, but don't expect much more than that.
